DEVON MUSTER ROLLS

In those early days, every man was obliged to bear arms. At the time of the MUSTER ROLLS it meant little more than a display and inspection of men and equipment. The need became greater later on with the threat from the Spanish. A Harquebus was an early type of portable gun, supported on a tripod by a hook, or a forked rest.

All the men called COLLIER aged between 16 and 60 who were "Habel bodied" should be on this list, but of course some parish lists have been lost or the entries are unreadable.
